St. Nicholas Church in Sapareva banya is located in the park in the city center. It was built in XII-XIII century. In 1838 the local people want to build a new church nearby and then were found remains of another, larger church. It is assumed that this church was demolished at the beginning of Ottoman rule. The smaller one - "St. Nicholas", was preserved, but gradually in times is ran down, because the Turks did not allow it to be repaired.
St. Nicholas Church is very picturesque and has own characteristic with its construction style - type "sunken brick". Its size is 5.7 x 7.2 m., and its height at the dome is 6.6 meters. It is made of rows of red brick, joined with white mortar. The façade is decorated by two-level niches at the northern and southern parts, one at the holy gates and eight at the drum.
Unfortunately, only fragments from the murals inside have been preserved.
The church is fully restored in 1937.
St. Nicholas Church in Sapareva banya was declared Architectural monument of national importance and declared as Artistic monument of national importance.
