Church "St. Nicholas"
The Church "St. Nicholay Letni" in village of Gumoshtnik was built during the Ottoman rule - in 1839. The strange thing is that it was constructed large and impressive, in contrast to other churches in Bulgaria from that time, which according an Ottoman law have been made small and buried into the ground. Most likely for it had been given many bribes to the Turkish authorities to allow construction of church with such size.
The church has three naves, with stone roofs and 1.4 m thick walls. The grandeur of the church is strengthened also by its interior decoration. The iconostasis is very beautiful - a real masterpiece of Bulgarian woodcarving from the Vazrajdeneto period (Bulgarian Renaissance). It is work of craftsmen from the village of Novo Selo - Nikola Mateev and his son Yonko. Especially captivated are the 12 biblical scenes, which are located at the base of the altar.
The icons in the church are very fine and well preserved. They were drawn before 1842 by the master Atanas Minchev from Batoshevo, master Naum and Nacho from Macedonian and others.
In the churchyard there was aн Old Kiliyno school (religious school, from kilia - means a cell), which now is converted into museum.
The church "St. Nicholas" in village of Gumoshtnik is declared a monument of culture.
