Thracian rock sanctuary Belintash
The Thracian sanctuary Belintash (aka Belantash) is situated on top of a rock (with the same name) in Rhodopes mountain, 30 km southeast of Asenovgrad, between the villages of Sini Vir (now non-existing anymore as separate village) and Mostovo.
The top of Belintash rock can be reached by stone steps leading to a terrace, where can be seen carved eyelets ritual urns, trays with grooves, recesses and steps that, some consider, form map of the stars.
There can be seen also two tanks with a depth of 2.5 meters and a diameter of 1.6 and 1.9 m, which were used in rituals. It is considered the site is a cult temple of the god Sabazios of the Thracian tribe Besi. Information about the sanctuary can be found even in the writings of the declared for the father of the history Herodotus in his book "History."
At the foot of the rock were found ancient graves, and at a slope nearby - traces of walls and Neolithic, Late Bronze and Early Iron ceramics.
In the summer of 2006 a group of tourists from Plovdiv found strange signs on the rock and there is a dispute they are an authentic ancient inscription or natural glyphs only.
The Thracian sanctuary Belintash is a monument of national and world significance.
