Krivus fortress
Krivus fortress is located in Southern Bulgaria, in the east part of Rodopi Mountains, near village of Bashevo. Not far away from it is situated the medieval castle Patamos. The Krivus fortress built in the X-th century in order to protect the area around the river Arda in the eastern parts of the Rodopi Mountains. In several Byzantine chronicles some information about the fortress can be found.
The fortress is located on a small hill, but it is surrounded from several sides by deep precipices, and that was the reason for being one difficultly pregnable fortress. There are significant remains of the fortress. At the moment the fortification wall has parts which are to 5 meters high. The battlements and the fortification entrance are also in quite good shape.
In an archaeological study of the remains, some coins, Christian symbols and instruments. There are remains of a church, which was situated in the centre of the courtyard.
