The church of "St.John the Evangelist" in the town of Karnobat was built in the period 1880 - 1895 on an area of about 434 square meters. It is a work of the great Renaissance master Gencho Kanev from Tryavna, who built numerous churches and schools throughout Bulgaria - Gabrovo, Pleven, Sevlievo, Varna, Vidin, Vratsa, Pomorie, Sozopol, Tutrakan, Aytos and others.
The church iconostasis is a work of the Filipovi family from Debar, headed by Yosiph Filipov. It is quite impressive and supposedly was be done between 1906 and 1908. The carvings are done in Renaissance style, enriched with ornaments of Bulgarian Revival (Vazrajdane) architecture and art baroque elements.
In same period or a little later were made also canopy over the king's table in the altar, the bishop's throne, the pulpit, and others.
