Geo-complex Ponorite
The Natural Phenomenon Ponorite (aka Propastite, means "the precipices") is one of the main attractions of the village of Musina. It is located about 400 meters south of the village, not far away from the Musinska cave.
The phenomenon has no analogue in Bulgaria. It is а karst formation (two precipices), with a depth of 25 m. The precipices are connected by underground karst gallery. It is assumed that the galleries lead as far as Musinska and Emen caves.
The precipice once looked pretty scary for the local population and there were beliefs the abysses led to the lower land of the dead.
With money from an European project in 2006 the site and the area around were adapted for visitors. To the bottom of the abyss were built metal stairs with parapets, and near by - a gazebo.
GeoComplex Ponorite was declared a protected site and registered in the Ministry of Environment and Waters of Bulgaria.
