Morovitsa cave
Morovitsa cave is located near the village of Glozhene (municipality of Teteven), 2 km away from the Glozhene monastery of "St. George Pobedonosets".
Morovica is one of the longest caves in Bulgarian - 3025 meters underground galleries. The cave has two storey. It begins with a large entrance, followed by a wide horizontal gallery leading to the gap. Тhe lower floor of the cave can be reached after overcoming this gap (only with specialised alpine equipment). The gap itself is divided into two vertical thresholds of 25 and 40 m. The total depth of the cave reaches 150 metres.
In the cave were found traces of prehistoric people, lived here during the Paleolithic and Chalcolithic eras, and inscriptions from the time of Ivan Shishman. Finds from the cave can be seen in the historical Museum of Teteven and at the Museum of the Glozhene Monastery.
The cave is inhabited by many different species of bats.
In 1962 Morovica Cave was declared a natural monument.
