"Karangila" cave

The cave "Karangila" is located about 15 minutes walk from the center of village Shiroko pole. It can be reached by two routes - from the village (easier, following signs) or by the path from the fortress "Monyak" towards the old road to the town of Kardzhali.
The cave entrance is difficult to be found because it is located in a small sunken earthly form. Penetration into the cave by non-professionals is not recommended. For the entry it is necessary a rope or rope ladder to be used.
It is a three-storey dry cave - the longest in the Eastern Rhodopes. It was formed in limestone rocks. Its length is 490. m, displacement +15 m and the elevation 340 m.
The first floor has a length of 180 meters. More than 40 years ago the first floor was flooded, but over the time the water has seeped and disappeared. Not far from it is the biggest room of the cave. It was bottom of an underground lake, but after construction of fountain nearby, th water permeates and now the bottom is dry.
The cave is inhabited by different species of bats. Another unique type is a spider species Centromerus milleri.
