Kyunt Capua gate of Ruschuk fortress
Type: Archaeological site
Location: Town Rousse »
In Bulgarian: Кюнт Капу портал на Русчушката крепост »
Kyunt Capua is the only preserved gate of the fortress wall of the Ottoman fortress Rustchuk in Ruse. Under the terms of the Berlin Peace contract from 1878, all fortresses in the Principality of Bulgaria had been destroyed. From the Ruschushkata fortress is preserved only this gate and its iron-studded door. The stones from the fortress wall were used to build the bell tower of Holy Trinity Church in the town.
The name of the gate is literally translated as the door with the pipe, because there was apipeline (kyunt) passing along it, which was part of the city water system. This water pipe had supplied with water the main fountain, which was situated in the Saint Grigorievski schoolyard (now the school Angel Kanchev). This fountain is the only preserved fountain from the XVII-th century so far, and is located in the city of Ruse.
