Velyova banya (bathroom) is one of the most attractive historical monuments in town of Velingrad. It is located in Ladzhene quarter (the western part of town), on the right bank of the river of Lukovitsa, among beautiful pine park. The building dates to 1640. The water temperature here stays at 43°C and is used for treatment of various disorders without cooling.
There is a legend about the bathroom: Once a man named Velyo, who was governor of neighboring villages, had a skin disease that can not heal. A local woman advised him to have a bath into the puddle, which was located at the place of today`s bathroom. Then Velyo healed and as gratitude he enclosure the place to be used as a bath from all. Since then the name of the bathroom is Velyova bathroom.
