The Devil`s bridge
Type: Bridge
Location: Village Dyadovtsi »
In Bulgarian: Дяволският мост »
"The Devil`s Bridge" (the Turkish name is "Shaitan Kupru") was built in the late Middle Ages, in a picturesque narrow gorge over Arda River, about 5 kilometers northwest of the town Ardino. In this times here was passing the road connecting the area of the Thracian lowland with Aegean.
The bridge was built in a medieval architectural tradition. It has three vault (8.5 m., 18.5 meters., 8.5 m) and several overflows. Against the stream there are breakwaters. There is a small railing, about 50 cm high (originally it was about 20 cm but after a reconstruction of the bridge in 1993 it has been upgraded), preventing crossing people.
There is marked road and eco-trail to the bridge from village of Dyadovtsi. In 2003 the region was declared "Natural landmark".
