The mosque of the seven maidens

"The Mosque of the seven maidens" in the village of Podkova is one of the oldest mosques in Bulgaria. It is unique with the fact that for its construction was not used any nail.

According to legend, it was built by seven girls whose beloved never returned from a war. They sold their dowry to purchase materials and an the mosque was built for one night. More nobody saw them. 

Every year, on May 6, the muslims from the region gather in the courtyard of the mosque, read Mawlid, the Koran and prayers. The visitors are feast with pilaf.
