The Ethnographic Museum is located in Old Town of Plovdiv. It was opened in 1917 and in its current building (The Kuyumdjiev house - a declared cultural monument of national importance) it is housed from 14 October 1943 when it was named the Municipal house-museum. In 1949 it was renamed to Popular Ethnographic Museum.
In its funds the Plovdiv Ethnographic Museum stores more than 40 000 objects separated into following sections: agriculture, crafts, fabrics and clothing, furniture and interior, musical instruments and ritual objects, works of art.
There is shown what were the main livelihoods and the traditional crafts of the local population. There are reproductions of the goldsmith`s workshop with all its equipment, interiors of rooms in Koprivshitsa and Rhodopean styles, guest from town of Plovdiv and others.
