Kremikovtsi monastery is located 3km above Sofia`s quarter of Kremikovtsi, north-east of the center of Sofia city, in the southern slopes of Stara planina mountain. It was founded during the XIV-th century, probably due to Tzar Ivan Alexander (1333-1371), when 14 monasteries known as the "Sofia Mount Athos", were erected around Sofia. The monastery is built on a rocky terrace from which stunning beautiful scenery to the vast Sofia’s plain is revealed.
At the present the Kremikovtsi Convent is functional and it consists of mainly two residential buildings and two churches - "St.Georgi" (dated back to the end of the XV-th century) and "The shroud of the Holy Mother" (built in the period 1901-1907).
