The underground temple-well in the village of Garlo (Breznik Municipality) is an unique for Bulgaria (and quite rare for the region of Eurasia) facility. It is the most ancient religious stone mason construction in Bulgarian lands which dating from the XII century BC. The temple was discovered in the early 70s of XX-th century.
The well-temple is located north of the village of Garlo, dug into the western slopes of the gorge where the River of Konska goes into the mountain ridge. It is build of coarse stones and is famous with the mastery of the construction and elegance of the forms and proportions. To the temple leads down-stairs long about 10 m, which initially is open but somewhere in the middle becomes a covered tunnel. The tunnel leads to the heart of the temple - a cylindrical room with a diameter and height of about 4 meters. About a meter above the ground the walls tilt inward and form a spherical dome which top is a hole 2-2.50 meters in diameter. In the center of the floor is situated a well with diameter 1-1.5 meters and a depth of 4 meters.
The temple is totally different from the others Thracian temples, mausoleums and tombs found in the Bulgarian lands. Similar church-wells have been found also in Greece, Crimea, Palestine and at island of Sardinia (between 70 and 100).
