The Oak in village of Granit (Stara zagora region) is the oldest tree in Bulgaria. Its species is "Summer oak". Scientific studies have found that age of the tree is over 1660 years - it dating from 345 years AD. The crown of the tree is 1017 m2, the circumference of the stem - 7.45 m and the height - 23.40 meters.
Unfortunately, in 1969, it main branch (from the northern side) was broken. In 1983 and later in 1986 the tree has been strengthened with metal construction. Nowadays most of the oak is withered and from his crown is left with only one dry skeleton with a few live branches.
In 1967 the oak in village of Granit was declared a protected site "Old tree" under the name "The Old Oak".
