This Thracian necropolis / heroon (from Greek ηρώιον - Mausoleum, a shrine of hero) is located 4 km west of town of Pomorie in "Kuhata mogila" locality. The site is built around the III century AD and is a complex of dromos, burial chamber and additional rooms.
The entrance of the tomb is partially destroyed. After it the visitors enter in well-preserved vaulted corridor (dromos) with a length of 22 m. On both sides of it there are rectangular rooms. The dromos leads to the burial chamber, which is circular with a diameter of 11.5 meters and was built of stone, brick and mortar. In the middle of the chamber there is a hollow column with a diameter of 3.3 m and height 5,5 m. The column gradually extended to the ceiling like a sponge and is joined to the dome. From the top part of the column there is natural light. There are five niches on the walls around.
It is believed that this is no an ordinary tomb but mausoleum (heroon) of a rich Thracian family and there periodically have been performed religious rituals. The necropolis is unique with the fact for its construction were used Roman building techniques but the rituals are Thracian.
Thracian tomb in Pomorie was restored and open for visitors in 1959.
