Church of Holy Assumption is located on "Anton Strashimirov" str. in town of Zlatograd. It was built in 1834 on the ruins of another Christian temple (destroyed by the Turks around 1722) and is one of the oldest churches in the Middle Rhodope Mountains.

The church has three naves, one-apse and was dug about 1 meter into the ground, following the Turkish law about the Christian religious buildings. The construction is made of stone masonry, the floor is also stone, and the ceilings are wooden. The temple is divided into three parts: the altar, and male and female wards. The female part is separated from the male by lattice fence.

Most of the icons are painted in the XIX century by masters from Tryavna and Samokov Art schools. The iconostasis is without carvings and ornaments, but there are placed several valuable icons - one of them a work of Zachary Zograf. Part of the church icons were brought from Mount Athos and are older than the church.
