Thracian rock sanctuary "Karadjov kamak"

"Karadjov kamak" ("kamak" = stone) is a peak (1448 m) in the Rhodope Mountains, situated on the Dobrostan elevation, a few kilometers south of the village of Mostovo. The area is a full of energy and since the ancient times it was used as a place for rituals. Together with other sacred sites located around - "Yurta", "Belintash" and ""Krastova gora" ("Cross forest"), it forms a unique religious complex.
The Rock massif has a length of 400 meters and its highest point is 20 meters. The rock complex is accessible through a long metal ladder, but equipped athletes and fans of rock climbing often reach it from the its steep side.
The sanctuary is located at the top and consists of two high rocks, among which is "stick" a big stone. There is a small cave underneath. At the top of the plateau there are consecrated ground tanks similar to those of Belintash sanctuary. It is believed that sacred place of Karadjov kamak was dedicated to the dead and the local people avoid talking about it and believe it is "bad" stone.
The area of "Karadjov kamak" is declared protected area. Here is the habitat of rare species such as black stork, golden eagle, peregrine falcon, alpine swift, wild goat, wild cat and others.
