In Bulgarian: Църква "Свети Панталеймон"

Category: Church

Location: Plevun

The Church "St. Panteleimon" in village of Plevun is typical representative of the religious architecture in the middle of XIX century (Vazrajdaneto - the Bulgarian Renaissance). It was built in 1843 and is a 3-nave pseudo-basilica with a bell tower.

Among the most attractive elements in the temple are the wooden-carved iconostasis and the king`s icons.

Church "St. Panteleimon" is associated with the heroism of Captain Petko Voivode and his detachment, which had kept the local people from the Turks during the Russo-Turkish War in 1878. At the church wall still are visible the traces of bullets. Later, in honor of the hero, front of the church was built a monument of Captain Petko Voivoda.

Today the church in the village Plevun is acting and every Sunday and on Christian holidays there are religious services. The church is declared an architectural and artistic monument of local importance.
