The Municipal Museum of History in the town of Ivaylovgrad was officially opened on June 30, 2009. The museum is housed in its own building, restored and renovated under the "Beautiful Bulgaria" project and municipal funds.
There are organized 3 exhibitions: "Archaeology", "History of the town and surrounding localities before the Liberation" and "The local history after 1878."
In section "Archaeology" are exposed artifacts found in archaeological researches in the region - ceramics from the ancient villa "Armira". coins and pieces of Thracian chariot burial from excavations of the Big mound near the village Svirachi, objects from the fortress "Lyutitsa" and others.
In the section "History of the town and surrounding areas before the Liberation" are shown various exhibits from the XIX century, including rifles and pistols from the Russo-Turkish War, icons and documents related to the life and work of voivodes Yani Popov and Stambol Dimitrov.
In the section "The History after 1878" can be seen objects and documents related to the life of the local population in period after the liberation from Ottoman rule and beginning of XX century. Among the exhibits is a unique geographical and historical map of Bulgaria from 1913.
