Hissar Fortress is situated in the old part of town of Lovech, on the right bank of the Osam river. It was build in the IX-th -X-th century and occupies both upper terraces of the hill. The housing estates and production zone of the town were situated at the lower one - third terrace, on the slopes of the hill and along the river. In the south and the west side , the hill has almost vertical rocks.
From the end of 2005 the Lovech fortress is equipped with a special night lighting (similar to Tsarevets fortress in city of Veliko Tarnovo) and there was started construction of an amphitheatrical stage with 250 seats.
