In 1959 into the house of the volunteer Stefan Bogdanov in Provadia was established a museum collection. For years, it is among the richest in the country. Since 2004, it received the status of the museum. The fund of the museum is about 15 000 objects of cultural heritage and the settlements of Provadia and the region.
There are stored archaeological finds of prehistoric, ancient, medieval and the Ottoman periods as well as exhibits related to the Modern and Contemporary History of the region.
Highlights of the exhibition are:
- Prehistoric mound-Provadia-salt shaker - the earliest salt production center in Europe that existed during the Neolithic (5400-4900 BC.) And the Copper (4650-4200 BC.) Eras. With photographs and graphics are described the defense system of the settlement and the method of the extraction and processing of salt. There are displayed also tools, pottery and religious figures associated with the life and culture of the prehistoric humans.
- Late antique and medieval fortress Ovech, administrative, military and cultural center of Northeast Bulgaria during the Second Bulgarian State.
- Old Monastery (IX-XI century) near the village of Ravna, where the largest "rock library" with over 1,200 graffiti and stone inscriptions and a unique collection of 138 ceramic vessels.
In the museum are exhibited objects of the period of Bulgarian Renaissance, costumes by Sarta and Thrace, Viennese style furniture from the late XIX-th century.
In the armory room of the museum can be seen unique sold-steel and firearms weapons from the middle of the XVIII century to the Russo-Turkish War.
The Historical Museum of Provadia is the starting point for visiting of the castle Ovech, the ethnographic complex Lambova house, the exhibition dedicated to the composer Svetoslav Obretenov and his family, the Art gallery in the town and more.
