Archaeological site Shumen fortress, Shoumen

The historical- archaeological reserve "Shoumen fortress" is located on top of the Shoumen plateau. It is partially restored after being destroyed by the Ottomans in the past and nowadays site is one of the best studied archaeological sites in Bulgaria.

The fortress is a sophisticated complex of defensive installations, religious and civil buildings, and until the XV-th century, the town was located around it.
