The Bridge of Kolyu Ficheto in town of Byala is located about 1 kilometer northwest of the town center, at the road between Ruse and Pleven. It was built in 1865 - 1866 by the famous Bulgarian builder Nikola Fichev (aka Kolyu Ficheto) by order of Midhad Pasha. The bridge is one of the most remarkable examples of Bulgarian Renaissance civil engineering and architectural art.
The bridge is made of stone carved from a local limestone and lime mortar. It is 276 long and 9 meters wide. There are 14 vaults 12 meters each, which are richly decorated with relief images of animals. The initial vision of the bridge has been changed after reconstruction in 1922 - 1923 year.
Today Kolyo Ficheto bridge in town of Byala is allowed only for pedestrians (there is a new bridge for cars) and is kept as a monument of Bulgarian architecture.
